I started a similar thread on IH8MUD.com and would like to do so here. I have the first prototype 4-inch suspension lift kit from Hell Creek Suspension. They are located in Mississippi and so far, I'm totally impressed with the ride and strength of these springs. Volunteer on here also has a set for his 1967 FJ 40.

I have to replace the rear springs because the owner of Hell Creek didn't like the shackle angles on the ones we installed and ran (still running). He added some length to them and as soon as I can, I'll switch them out and test them out for Tom.

    Enjoy.

Different close up views from this morning. I just got my Cruiser back from the shop where the t-case was rebuilt. I thought I'd get some fresh images from underneath. The mud is from some of that caked on stuff from Sicily Island. I'll be at the Expo if anyone wants to take a look underneath and get a feel for them. Tom has a list of rigs that he currently has springs for on his web site. Buy American made products!

I spent Saturday and today working on the new springs Tom at Hell Creek sent me. He wanted to try springs that were a little bit shorter. They didn't work too well so I put the old ones back on today.

The cool thing is that it took me about 7 hours to take the first set of rear springs off and put the new ones on. Take into account that I took an hour off to go drink some beer with a few buddies and then eat. Today, I did the whole job in about 2 hours with just my hand tools. That was probably one of the best things I've ever done with my rig to really learn how that works.

Had great wrenching weather too. Thank goodness.

    Side by side:

They might be a little too stiff though. It still bounces a good bit. Unless of course I've got three other Cruiser addicts riding with me...

I've had this set on since September with three off-road trips made with them since. I talked to the owner today and he's going to take a closer look at the blueprints. The key word with this set is "prototype" and I've been proud to help out with this. I'll keep you all in the loop as we go.

    Thanks all.

i called downey offroad and they have no clue what i am talking about so here is my problem....

the new rear axle lines up with my springs and is sitting on its own weight. it is a toyota axle. it has a v6 third member, and came out of a 85 toyota. downey swears that all the axle tubes are the same size but the axle tubes on my new axle are definately slightly larger. so my spring plates (they sit below the axle) dont mount up flush to the axle and the u-bolt holes are about 1/8 of an inch too narrow so they dont sit flat like they are supposed to. i can take the plates to a machine shop and have the holes redrilled to make the u-bolts match up, but there is still the issue that the plates are for a slightly smaller tube diameter so they dont sit flush on the bottem of the axle. i suppose i could grind on them to make them work but then i would be sacraficing strengh....

    has anyone had this problem?
what should i do to fix this? its the only thing holding up the completion of my project

    thanks
