OK, so I have been going to Gilmer since before it was an actual park and I have done the same thing every time: Go, set up camp, wheel, come back to camp, wheel, camp/lunch/fix stuff, wheel(depending on how well the fix thing went)and repeat. This has become boring. So I had this idea to do Gilmer SAFARI style meaning pack everything on your 4x4, start at the beginning of the park and hit every trail in a row. Taking it easy because you have a whole weekend to try and make it through every trail. And I do mean every trail from 1 to 5+. Part of what I thought was great about offroading was the ability to make it through anything: stack rocks, winch cable, whatever but not tear your stuff up and make it to the next obstacle. At the end of the day, camp...wherever you are like there wasn't a campground for a thousand miles. get up in the morning, pack everything back up and take off like you will never see that place again. Anyone can beat up their rig so much that it falls apart and have to go back to the safety of a base camp but how many can say they did every trail in the entire park in one weekend, a true adventure. Anyone else interested?

Sounds great! I am guessing you are supplying the rig for me to accomplish this with? Needs at least 3 seats, supplies for 3 people, and I obviously eat a lot.
You have seen my truck camper, right? If that isnt ruffing it, i dont know what is!

Seriously, that sounds like an awesome time! BUT, I dont think my jeep is up to 5+ trails and my wife and kid arent sleeping on the ground after a day of wheeling. If I made these adventures by myself, I would do my best to keep up with you.

I knew this wasn't going to be for everyone, that some might be too civilized to leave their comfort zone.

I'm with Eddie- I'd give it Hell trying to follow if my wife wasn't planning to be there, too... and in fact, had this been brought up before I presented it to her... I'd have told her it's just how we do it. She can join us or stay home.

Not sure I could do a 5 but I could give it hell and try.. Might make some money if someone was to bring a tanker truck for fuel, I know I couldnt run all weekend without refueling.

Ha, that's funny. Been working on a trip like this to Big Bend for about three years. Supposed to happen after the buggy was finished This Gilmer trip is supposed to be a starter trip for learning what will be needed for a 4-5 day trip without stop through the back roads of Big Bend. This is a trip I hope to make later next year. If anyone is interested in that adventure please get in touch with me. Thanks for link, great stuff.

How about start at the front of the park and try to run every trail at the park in the least amount of time? That sounds like a blast to me...

Yet another good idea, but that's not what I want to do this time. That almost sounds like you wanna race somebody.

I would love to do this. Too bad my stocker would probably fall apart. Maybe I could spend all weekend on the bunny slopes or find a mall parking lot to spend a day or two in

I will probably do it in the jeep as the buggy probably won't be back together for the Gilmer ride. After talking with a few people that showed an interest we might do mini safaris and see how far we can get hitting every trail but still come back to the main campground at night. My goal was to do all the trails regardless of the capablilties of the vehicle.

Mine is basically stock and I am hoping to make this ride. As long as you know your limitations, you can have fun.
I have also been known to not know my limitations at times and still always have fun!
