This ^. If there's one thing I wish my TJ had from the JK, it would be the plush ride. Mine rides better than it did stock with the Currie setup but it's still rougher than a stock JK. I sympathize with driving long distances though. In the last year I've taken 3 road trips in my TJ that each amounted to over 1000 miles each. One from here to Moab and back with many stops between clocked in about 3600 miles over 6 or 7 days. Another was from Denver to New Orleans (1400 miles) and the last one was from here to OKC and back, another 1400 or so miles.

I'll be driving the TJ to San Francisco over the span of 3 days toward the end of the year.... definitely not looking forward to it lol

I have a 3x5 hitch caddy with extra long receiver tube to clear large spare if anyone needs to borrow it.

I would love to have more information on this trip! I don't have access to the "mystery" thread.

Just read through this thread. I've been to Moab twice, but never in my Jeep. Both times I did it in a rental Jeep. They have some moderately off road equipped rentals out there. It is better to have done Moab in a rental than not at all!

I am flying out there for a biz meeting in October. I will probably do a rental ride again. But I have always wanted to get a group and a car hauler to deliver my Jeep. No idea what that would cost, but I think it would be the only way I would make that trip with my ride

Eyes on the thread to see what someone might come up with in terms of a car hauler

For that kind of money, I'm watching C-list to get my own trailer. Even if I still have to drive it, I'll put the wear and tear on the F-250. I also have a 6x12 cargo trailer that I'm gonna use as trade bait.

You have a trailer that can handle two vehicles?

It'll pull it, question is will it do it legally. I'd be very careful with the weight thing, as there's quite a few differing laws in the states we'll be going through and a ton of small, almost bankrupt localities (towns, counties, etc.) just itching for some ticket revenue.

You should review your registrations (truck and trailer) for weight limits. In my research I on hauling you pay for x number pounds (which is typically higher than the waranty weight ratings) it is my understanding that you can increase that number on certain rigs not sure as to how that works but if you are under the tagged weights you are legal. If you got a CDL and in going a stray set us straight.

If I'm trailering the JKU 1500 miles one way, I'm doing it on at least two 3500# axles. If I'm hauler a single vehicle, the reciever is fine, if I need to do more the F250 can handle up to 13K if I go with a fifthwheel/gooseneck. I have the fifthwheel hitch and can pickup a gooseneck hitch that fits the rails relatively inexpensively.

You misunderstood my vagueness. My point was you can tow/haul as much as you pay taxes to. For enstance my truck is registered at 10000lbs my gvwr is 8700lbs. My truck weights roughly 6000lbs, so if I keep the load in the truck under 4000lbs I'm legal even though my gvwr is 1300lbs less. CDL guys help me if I'm wrong. All I was saying if you are registered to tow here you should be good for all 50 states much like the lift laws.

On one specific rig? Or is it an endorsement on your Drivers license?

Endorsement, easy written test. You just pay the extra fee when you get a license. Well worth it just in case, IMO

Where did you get the price? Is it an actual quote?

A lot of $$. But it will probably upwards of $475 one way on fuel to tow my rig. I don't have a trailer, but may be able to borrow one. But then throw in the wear and tear on the pick up and the car hauler is not so far out of the park.

The ideal scenario is if there was an OTR driver with access to a car hauler and also a Jeeeper :) Even if you had a car hauler both ways, I guess you have to pay the driver to sit all week while you wheel? Or arrange different rides back and forth?
